What Your Afternoon Tea Class Will Include
The afternoon tea class includes a ‘mini’ house tour of this detached Victorian 1860’s house. You will receive step-by-step instructions and recipes for making scones, shortbread and speciality sandwiches.
You will also receive a written reminder of what you have learned.
After the baking and preparations you will sit down and enjoy a full afternoon tea in the sitting room (or drawing room) - see menu below. This is an ideal opportunity to practice English etiquette and conversation in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The fee is sixty pounds. Come with a good appetite! I will also provide a “doggy bag”* for you to take home. *(a popular expression for samples to take home).
The Afternoon Tea Class Menu
- Classic assorted tea and pinwheel sandwiches.
- Devonshire Scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam and/or/lemon curd.
- The Classic Victoria Sandwich Cake (Victoria Sponge Cake). Scottish Shortbread
- Speciality biscuits e.g. Florentines.
- Sweet tea bread e.g. Fruit tea loaf, Banana bread or Gingerbread.
- Choice of teas.
How to Book Any of the Classes
As spaces are limited to a maximum of seven people, it is advisable to book as much in advance as possible. Please send thirty pounds as a deposit to secure your reservation - balance payable on attendance. Payments may be made by cheque, cash or postal order (postal orders are easily available from any Post Office). Please make cheques or postal orders payable to Giuliana Orme.

Menu options - on request. Minimum 2 persons- Maximum 6 Persons
Fish Pie (with cod and tiger prawns) topped with crispy sliced potatoes and served with steamed leeks.
Dessert: Sticky Toffee Pudding served with vanilla ice-cream.
Whole Roast Chicken with gravy, roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots.
Dessert: Apple Crumble served with cream or custard.
Beef Stew in Ale (Guinness) served with creamy mashed potatoes and Savoy cabbage.
Dessert: Bread and Butter Pudding.
Kedgeree - A tasty rice dish, made with smoked fish, hard-boiled eggs and herbs with a hint of curry flavour. A dish of Indian origins, traditionally adopted as a special English breakfast, dish but now also served at lunch or supper.
Dessert: Lemon Meringue Pie
Toad in the Hole (very traditional dish of tasty, herby or spiced sausages baked in Yorkshire Pudding) with onion gravy.
Dessert: Tiramisu - not strictly British but definitely adopted and adored by British people, especially my family!
Cottage Pie (Tasty minced beef dish with cheesy mashed potato topping) served with seasonal green vegetable.
Dessert: Fluffy Lemon Mousse (a very light and delicate dessert) served chilled.

You are invited to a full English Afternoon Tea
in a private English home.
Enjoy this very special and convivial tradition in a typically English home in St. Johns Wood, London (close to the famous Lord’s Cricket Ground).
A house tour of this detached Victorian (1860’s) house is also part of the schedule. This is an ideal opportunity to practice English etiquette and conversation in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will also learn some fascinating facts about English customs and traditions.

INTERACTIVE BAKING DEMONSTRATIONS
Many students who have attended my afternoon tea class have requested extra baking lessons and these classes are available on:
- Wednesdays 10am -1.30 pm - ON REQUEST
- Cost = £50-00 inclusive of light lunch. (OR £45.00 if booked with a friend directly after attending a tea class)
Minimum 2 persons, maximum 6 persons.
The classes offer an excellent opportunity to practise your English conversation in a relaxed atmosphere.
You will learn either A)
- 1. VICTORIA SANDWICH (SPONGE) Jam filled Sponge Cake named after Queen Victoria.
- 2. SHERRY TRIFLE A very traditional English dessert served on special occasions.
- 3. FLORENTINE BISCUITS Luxurious, chocolate coated, crispy biscuits made with candied citrus fruits, glace cherries and almonds.
OR B)
- 1. LEMON CURD - A delicious spread made from fresh lemons. Use with scones or as a filling for a sponge cake.
- 2. CHEESE SCONES - A lovely savoury version of the original recipe, which make a tasty and nutritious snack.
- 3. RITZ TORTE A nutty, chewy, meringue base which is topped with whipped cream and chocolate flakes. (My family’s favourite dessert!)
